William Bernard Cooke (1778-1855)
William Bernard was the elder brother of fellow artist George Cooke (1781-1834). He studied engraving under William Angus (1752-1821). He worked occasionally with his brother, on, for example, The Thames, 1811 and on Picturesque Views on the Southern Coast of England, produced between 1814 and 1826. This publication includes many prints after original drawings by J M W Turner.
In addition to his book illustrations, William Bernard is best known for his marine subjects.
