Thomas Cook (1744-1818)
Cook was a noted line engraver from London. He studied under Simon François Ravenet and, in common with him, engraved a number of plates for John Bell’s Shakespeare. He also produced plates for the publisher John Boydell.
According to Redgrave, Cook ‘…spent many years of his life in repeating the works of Hogarth, the same size as the originals, which were published under the title ‘Hogarth Restored.’ He afterwards reduced these engravings, comprising 160 plates, for Nicholas and Stevens’s edition of ‘Hogarth’s Works’ in two volumes.’
