Simon François Ravenet (1706-1774)
Ravenet was born at Paris and studied there under Jacques Philippe Le Bas (1707-1783). Having established his reputation in France, he relocated to London in 1750, possibly at the behest of William Hogarth (1697-1764), who engaged Ravenet on the engraving of his Marriage a-la-Mode series; Ravenet engraved plates four and five. He also worked for the publisher John Boydell and for Battersea Enamel Works. He was elected a member of the Incorporated Society of Artists in 1766 and an Associate Member of the Royal Academy in 1770.
