James H Thorpe (1876-1949)
Thorpe was born in London and studied at Lambeth School of Art, North London School of Art and at Heatherley’s. A member of the London Sketch Club and the Chelsea Arts Club, Thorpe’s cartoons were published in Punch from 1909 to 1938. In addition to his black and white work, Thorpe exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and at the Leicester Galleries, London.
