William Gunning King (1859-1940)
Gunning King was born in London and studied at the South Kensington and Royal Academy Schools. He exhibited his paintings extensively at shows in London and began submitting work to Punch in 1905. He drew inspiration from the work of Charles Keene leading Price (1957) to describe him (without criticism) as ‘a good mid-Victorian illustrator forty years on.’
