Thomas Medland engraving
Thomas Medland (1755-1822)

Medland was a prolific engraver practising in the later years of the 18th century. According to Redgrave, ‘he excelled in the delicate truth and finish of…landscape engravings.’
Notable works include plates for Views in Cumberland and Westmoreland, 1789 and Cities and Castles of England, 1791. Additionally, he engraved some of Thomas Stothard’s illustrations for Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe.
Medland exhibited for many years at the Royal Academy and later taught at the East India College, Hertford.
