Samuel Freeman (1773-1857)
Little is known about the life of the engraver Samuel Freeman. Mackenzie suggests that he may have been a pupil of Francesco Bartolozzi.
Redgrave gives the following: ‘He practised chiefly in portrait and history. He engraved Correggio’s ‘Holy Family’ and Raphael’s ‘Madonna’, ‘Infant Christ and St John’, also van Dyck’s ‘St Ambrose Refusing the Emperor Theodosius Admission to the Church’…’
