Peter Mazell (fl. 1761-1797)
A noted engraver of natural history subjects, Mazell is thought to have been born in Dublin, later relocating to London. He is recorded as a member of the Incorporated Society of Artists in 1774. He exhibited with the Society for several years and was elected Vice-President in 1790. Extant works include engravings for publisher John Boydell and all the illustrations for Charles Cordiner’s Remarkable Ruins and Romantic Prospects in North Britain, 1792. Additionally, Mazell produced engravings for works by the naturalist and antiquarian Thomas Pennant (1726-1798) including The British Zoology, 1766 and History of Quadrupeds, 1781.
