
Moses Griffith (b. 1749)
Griffith was born in Carmarthenshire; as a young man he was engaged as a servant to Thomas Pennant (1726-1798) the noted antiquarian. He drew on his travels with Pennant before refining his artistic abilities through study at the School of the Artists’ Society. He provided designs for Pennant’s Journey from Chester to London, 1782 and the second volume of Tour of Wales, 1781. Griffith retired to Wales, publishing a small number of etchings of views of his home country.
