John Hinchliff (1805-1875)
John James Hinchliff was the son of sculptor John Elley Hinchliff. For many years he was employed by the Admiralty’s Hydrographic Department.
Hinchliff was noted as an engraver of small book illustrations, such as the example right. Amongst the works he produced plates for are William Beattie’s Castles and Abbeys of England, and Henry Gastineau’s Picturesque Scenery in Wales.
His name is alternatively recorded as ‘Hinchliffe’.
