Gerard van der Gucht (1695-1776)
Gerard was born in London, the eldest son of artist Michael van der Gucht. He studied under Louis Chéron (1660-1725) before finding employment as an engraver of small book illustrations, principally portraits. He was later employed by Sir Hans Sloane, before establishing an art gallery on Lower Brook Street, dealing in engravings and paintings.
He was the father of thirty children.
