Charles Grignion (1717-1810)
Grignion was born in London to French Huguenot refugees. He studied art at Gravelot’s (Hubert-François Bourguignon) school in Covent Garden. A noted engraver, Grignion produced plates for Bernhard Siegfried Albinus’s Anatomical Studies and for John Bell’s The Poets of Great Britain. Additionally, Grignion engraved William Hogarth’s Election Series and the latter’s David Garrick as Richard III. In 1755 he was appointed a member of the committee that eventually led to the formation of the Royal Academy.
