Anthony Walker (1726-1765)
Anthony Walker was born at Thirsk in Yorkshire or at Salisbury in Wiltshire (accounts differ). He studied engraving under John Tinney (d. 1761) at St Martin’s Lane Academy, London. He was a noted engraver of landscapes, initially after his own drawings, and later of old master paintings; his frontispieces were particularly appreciated. He produced numerous prints for the publisher John Boydell.
