Alfred Leete (1882-1933)
Leete was self-taught and had his first cartoon accepted by Daily Graphic when he was 16. His work first appeared in Punch in 1905 and he continued to draw for the magazine until 1933. In addition to his single frame, black and white work, Leete produced strip cartoons, numerous illustrations and commercial adverts. His most famous design, the ‘Lord Kitchener Wants You’ recruitment advert, appeared on the cover of London Opinion in September 1914.
